The Camaro Z/28 may be cheaper than we thought

Yesterday afternoon, I went to the Chevrolet dealership in my town in hopes of finding the SS sedan they were showing on their website. After a few minutes of fruitless searching, I asked a salesman about it, and found out it would be at least a week before they would actually be getting it. I also learned that he was in the local car club, so we started shooting the breeze.

He mentioned that he was excited for the new Z/28, and that they were getting them soon, so I asked if he knew how much they were going to cost, since I hadn't heard any concrete figures yet. This is where things got interesting. Rather than the $60K or more I was expecting, he said the official GM literature he had seen said the Z/28 would be priced "equivalently to a Camaro 2SS, starting at around $44K." After I picked my jaw up off the ground, I made sure we were talking about the same car. If this turns out to be the truth, you heard it here first, and I need to find a doctor to harvest one of my kidneys now . If it isn't, you didn't hear it here, and GM shouldn't trick their employees.

Holy sheet. If that's true, it is a grim day for us mustang owners. I'm guessing though the markup is going to be outlandish; it's a limited production run, isn't it?

I'm doubtful. That's way too cheap.

I don't see how it could possibly be that cheap but if it's true then it's essentially a better version of the Boss Mustang 302. What made the Boss so good wasn't how fast is was (stupidly fast) but that it wasn't that much more than a regular GT Premium, ~$45k. If this is anywhere around $50k then it's a pretty good bargain.

I would still prefer a 2012 Boss.

I'm thinking BS, that guy is talking out his ass. And when he says they will be getting the Z/28 soon did he mean soon=5 months?
The SS Sedan starts at $43k and with basically just 2 options, that's the price. Camaro SS 1LE with Recaros and all performance options is, like you said, $44k.
Not a chance in hell Chevy is going unload the limited run Z/28 for anywhere close to those price points. This track killing bitch will be more than the ZL1
I betting on $60k for the Z/28. The LS7, carbon ceramic brakes, and DSSV dampers by themselves are basically the base price of a V6 Camaro. Toss on those massive tire to the price list and you have a pile of parts that now cost more than a base Camaro.

Typically ass-knuckle-fisting dealer. Go back in 5 months and tell him you have $44,000 just like he told you.

1) I'm a Mustang guy
2) Competition Orange
3) pre-refresh Mustang > post-refresh Camaro

Oh, I'm also very doubtful, but I still figured I'd post it.

the only people who will be buying this are rich fat guys who will put it in a heated garage with all their other collectibles.

I'm guessing a $60-65K too, but man, wouldn't that be great if he's right? I had just started and revved my Abarth for him, so maybe he was a little delirious from that. ;)

Yeah, I'm still guessing $60-65K for it, but I'll be pumped if you can find one for close to $50K.

Hey, if I can ever get one, you can bet money I'll track it (and most likely over-drive and stuff it)

If I was given the choice I'd actually have a hard time choosing. LS7s are real neat, and the new refreshed camaro looks pretty cool in my eyes. But put it up against a 2013 gt500 and there's no competition.

I'd go Boss or Z/28 over GT500. Even the Z is more power than I'd need, but a Shelby would be total overkill for me.

There's no way it will cost the same as a 2SS...it has all kinds of expensive parts on it that took a lot of expensive R&D hours to develop and perfect. I'm not buying it.

I'm doubtful too, but wouldn't it be awesome of he's right? I figure there's also a chance it could have been a typo on the paper or something.

Definitely, a man can dream can't he? It's sounds far fetched because this seems so much better than the Boss 302. And the Boss was $45k. Maybe were putting too much value on the LS7.

I want to apologize...but I don't feel that's quite appropriate for what you definitely saw. Just know this...she loves cars, loves F1, loves Top Gear, and is German. She's my type of girl for sure. I bet she has a wonderful personality.

Also I wish I could star your comment a million times.

Hey, she looked like a nice lady, and if she's you're type of girl, you should look into Aston Martin's CPO program.

just curious, are you from the NYC area Bert?

Im a salesman at a Chevy dealership located just north of NYC in Westchester County... the conversation you had sounds exactly like a very similar conversation I had with a customer recently....

(I own a Camaro, and I'm in a local NYC based Camaro club)

I have a feeling that the salesmen you met, was me...

unless your not in the NYC area, in which case, just a coincidence then!

Ah, no, it wasn't me. Just a side note, if your dealership ever feels like it has too many ZL1's, and needs to give one away, you know who to call.
